Now collecting donations for hygiene products!
The NET Healthy Kids Coalition begins collecting hygiene items
Based on needs identified by local school staff, the Coalition will be collecting and distibuting personal hygiene items to our local schools. We are accepting the following donations at our drop off locations: combs and hairbrushes, deoderant (full size requested), lice kits, pads & maxi pads, soap, shampoo and conditioner (please consider donations for diverse hair types to meet the needs of all of our students), toothbrushes and toothpaste. Thanks for your support!
A Bit of Background
Northeast Tacoma Healthy Kids Coalition at a Glance
The NE Tacoma Healthy Kids Coalition is a partnership with staff and PTAs from Crescent Heights Elementary, NE Tacoma Elementary, Browns Point Elementary, and Meeker Middle School, along with additional community partners that is focused on providing healthy weekend meals to students in need in our community. The idea is simple: a two-day supply of easy-to-prepare food is sent home with eligible students every Friday in their backpacks to ensure they have healthy meals throughout the weekend. Students receiving assistance from the NE Tacoma Healthy Kids Coalition are identified by the principal and counseling team at each participating school. Confidentiality is an essential value of the program. The Coalition does not keep a wait list, and has expanded to serve every student identified by school staff as needing food assistance.
How You Can Help
Donate your time
We join other Coalition members once per month to create enough food packs for the entire upcoming month for all four schools. That’s over 600 bags per month! We also need helpers to transport donations between schools, volunteers to create food packs, help to inventory food supplies, solicit donations from local businesses and more! Sign up for our newsletter to learn about upcoming volunteer opportunities.
Do you have a group that would like to volunteer to collect food and/ or pack bags? Contact us to discuss details!
Make a financial contribution
Don't have time to shop for food? Make a financial donation and we will use the funds to buy inventory needed to pack food each month. Checks can be made out to any of the local PTAs, dropped off at school, with a memo on the check designating the donation for the NE Tacoma Healthy Kids Coalition. Your donation is tax-deductible!
Drop food off at any participating school in the bin in the lobby!
